Testimonials

Dear Master Kim,

http://www.kimausa.com/images/adult_testimonial.jpgIn light of the new year, I am reflecting on the past year and realize that many of the highlights for us involved our time at KIMA. I am very pleased with the growth and experiences that have evolved from the day Jack started at the age of 5.

Jack had asked to do some type of martial arts. My husband agreed, but I was skeptical. I preferred more "mainstream" sports. Eventually, I gave in to Hapkido to appease what I thought would be a passing phase. It didn't take long to see the benefits. I noticed Jack's coordination improving because he needed to pay attention to how his body moved to specific positions. His speed and strength also increased. I was amazed how quickly he could learn many forms and techniques. And so, when Griffin expressed interest at age 4 we didn't hesitate, although I thought he might be too young. Again, I was amazed at what these "Little Dragons" were able to accomplish. Most importantly, at this age, they were learning to take turns, listen and follow directions, but also Hapkido basics, forms and techniques.

As I watched my boys in their classes I always thought they were getting such a great workout. When you talked about starting a women's kickboxing class I jumped at the chance. And you didn't disappoint me. I considered myself relatively in shape before I started your class. Exercise and working out had always been part of my life. But, your classes are the best workouts I ever had. Eventually, kickboxing was the segway to becoming Hapkido student.

For me, practicing and learning Hapkido forms and techniques is like trying to teach an old dog new tricks. But, what a feeling of accomplishment! Pursuing Hapkido is something I do for me. When I'm in class it requires my total focus, therefore shutting out the rest of the world for just a while. When I leave I feel energized physically and mentally.

Over the years, I have noted wonderful improvements in all your students. This is to your credit. I was a teacher for ten years. I worked with many good teachers all with college training to prepare them for their careers. You have an amazing natural aptitude for teaching. You have a quiet, yet commanding presence in your classes. You always encourage the children to do more, but always within reason and completely in accordance with their specific abilities. Requiring the students to respond with "sir" and "ma'am", shake hands with adults and, after class, with all students is a lost tradition in today's world. If I did not feel this respect for you I would not have been as honored to accept your invitation to help instruct. The younger students are a joy. While the older students can be challenging, they are always respectful due to the standard you have set.

Thank you for making KIMA so much more than just a building and a business. By acknowledging students' birthdays, their report cards, constantly creating new programs, addressing community outreach, and having Christmas and summer parties, you have created a community of families with much camaraderie and support.

Sincerely,

Jill Hanes and family
